Environmental Sustainability & Social Justice

At a time of overconsumption and waste, La Perle de Domme has elected to embrace a different approach based on environmentally sustainable and socially just practices. Our location in an environmentally protected heritage area demands that we respect nature and the beauty she provides us with, and we happily do so.

Energy Efficiency

We use no oil or gas on site, whether for heating or any other purpose. All heating, cooling, and ventilation in the apartments are provided through the use of electrically efficient heat pumps and exchangers, while we additionally use water tanks capable of digital programming to control the production and flow rate of hot water. In turn, our entire heating, cooling, ventilation, and hot water production functions are digitally integrated into a smart central control module, allowing for not a single watt of electricity to be wasted.

Transition to Electric Transportation

We are constantly looking at alternatives to the use of fossil fuels and we are proud at the introduction of 10 retro styled scooters that are fully electrically powered. We also offer charging stations for electric vehicles at La Perle, so please enquire at the time of making a reservation. As Electricite d’France are capable of providing us with green energy sourced from solar, wind, and hydro installations, we truly believe that are keeping our promise to Mother Nature.

Partnership with Kalani: A Commitment to Sustainability

Our commitment to the environment and social justice is probably best exemplified by our partnership with Kalani, who supplies us with both our bedding and bathroom linens. This wonderful Belgian company not only produce 100% organic cotton products of impeccable quality, but they do so sustainably and ethically.

Not only do they take great care in reducing their ecological footprint in getting their products to us, but they literally know where their cotton is grown, and by whom. By integrating social criteria into their products, choices, and actions, they have chosen their manufacturing plants carefully by going on site to meet them. All of these factories are Fairtrade certified and are managed with respect and ethics.

Sustainable Practices in Production

Kalani is internationally committed to paying a higher price for each kilo of cotton purchased from farmers in “Best Practice” organic cotton cooperatives in the provinces of Odisha, Telangana, and Maharashtra in central India. They go there regularly and know precisely the villages where their Organic/Fairtrade cotton comes from. Their organic cotton is grown without chemicals (pesticides, insecticides, or fertilizers) and contributes to the well-being of those who grow it and their communities.

The sustainable production practices used do not pollute the water, soil, or air, avoid overconsumption of irrigation water, and therefore preserve the environment and biodiversity. Kalani’s entire supply chain is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified, the strictest organic cotton certification in the world, which in addition to guaranteeing organic cultivation and traceability also limits the use transformation products (washing, dyeing, printing, etc.) in all production and manufacturing processes for textile products. Please check them out at www.kalani-home.com should you ever require any bedding or bathroom linens.

Community Support and Local Sourcing

All our suppliers are local and, where possible, we support small businesses in our community to provide us with suitable, quality products. As such, La Perle is a showcase of the best that the Dordogne has to offer, and it is proudly on display for all to see.

At La Perle de Domme, we are not just providing accommodation; we are fostering a sustainable and ethical lifestyle that respects both the environment and the community.
